The House of Representatives is helping in the process of bringing the late Cavite 4th district Rep. Elpidio "Pidi" Barzaga Jr.'s remains home.

This was bared by Speaker Martin Romualdez in an impromptu press briefing Monday afternoon, April 29, even as he shared how the House members have been handling the passing of their beloved colleague, Barzaga.

"Sobrang lungkot kaming lahat dito sa Kongreso lalo na iyong mga classmate ni Cong. Pidi, e classmate ko iyan sa 14th Congress, close kami," Romualdez said.

(We are all very sad here in Congress, especially Cong. Pidi's classmates, he was my classmate in the 14th Congress, we're close.)

Romualdez said at the time of the press briefing that Barzaga's remains and family were still in the United States (US).

"Gagawa kami ng paraan na maiuwi siya ng maaga. Kino-coordinate natin sa Consul General sa San Francisco at pag bumalik siyempre we will express our condolences and we pay our respect)" said the House leader.

(We will make a way to bring him home early. We're coordinating it with the Consul General in San Francisco and once he arrives, of course we will express our condolences and we pay our respect.)

"Pero may mga wishes din iyong pamilya so we’ll make sure that hindi ito kagaya ng mga kaso na may namatay na isang congressman," added Romualdez, Leyte's 1st district congressman.

(But the family also has its wishes so we’ll make sure that this won't turn out like the past cases of congressmen who died.)

Barzaga, a former National Unity Party (NUP) president passed away on Saturday, April 27 at the age of 74 in California in the US. The lawyer-lawmaker flew stateside  last October to have heart surgery.
