DepEd Assistant Secretary Francis Cesar Bringas shared updates about the scheduled pilot run of the revised K to 10 curriculum, also known as the MATATAG Curriculum, which is set to begin in selected pilot schools on Monday, Sept. 25.

Bringas noted that the pilot run of the MATATAG Curriculum will cover 35 schools in seven regions around the country.

“It will be implemented in K [Kinder], grades 1, 4, and 7,” he said.

DepEd’s Curriculum and Teaching (CT) Strand, he added, has also “completed the training” for teachers who will the classes under the pilot run.

Bringas added that school and Schools Division Office (SDO) personnel who will be part of the implementation, monitoring, and assessment “have also been oriented.”

Meanwhile, Bringas noted that lesson exemplars and learning activity sheets, including all readily available learning resources mapped and aligned with the competencies of the revised curriculum, will be utilized.

Moreover, he assured that the fund support for the implementation was also “downloaded to the participating regions.”

In preparation for the pilot run, Bringas said that the strengthening of expertise among teachers through collaborative activities like Learning Action Cell (LAC) sessions were “already in place to aid teachers in the delivery of teaching-learning process.”

Recognizing that necessary revisions to the curriculum are needed to “avert further learning losses,” DepEd launched the revised curriculum for Kindergarten to Grade 10 called the “MATATAG K to 10 Curriculum” in August.

To emphasize the development of foundational skills, including literacy, numeracy, and socio-emotional skills among younger learners, the revised K to 10 curriculum reduces the number of subjects in Grades 1 and 2 from seven to five.
