While there only 35 schools in seven regions selected for the pilot run, DepEd said other regions may participate when "deemed necessary."

The Department of Education (DepEd) on Sunday, Sept. 17, released the list of schools that will participate in the pilot implementation of the revised K to 10 curriculum this school year.
The pilot implementation in these selected schools will start on Sept. 25 according DepEd Undersecretary and Spokesperson Michael Poa.
In a list released by DepEd Assistant Secretary Francis Cesar Bringas, there are five schools selected in each of the seven regions that will participate in the pilot testing of the MATATAG Curriculum this School Year (SY) 2023-2024.
Before its phased implementation in School Year (SY) 2024-2025, DepEd announced in memorandum number 54, series of 2023 dated Sept. 8 or the “Pilot Implementation of the MATATAG Curriculum” that the revised K to 10 curriculum will be piloted in selected schools in Regions I, II, VII, XII, the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR), the CARAGA region, and the National Capital Region (NCR) starting this school year.
Here are the participating schools for the pilot implementation of the revised K to 10 curriculum:

DepEd said the main objective of the pilot implementation is to “gain valuable insights that will inform the implementation of the MATATAG Curriculum on a larger scale.”

In DM No. 54, DepEd said that pilot schools have been selected to “ensure a diverse representation” of public elementary and secondary schools in the NCR, Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao.
“Schools have been categorized by enrollment size to include small, medium, and large schools,” DepEd added.
The participating schools, DepEd explained, were also selected taking into consideration the community's socio-economic status.
The schools were also categorized schools into high, medium, and low poverty incidence areas.
“This meticulous approach to school selection aims to create a well-rounded pilot program that reflects the diversity and complexity of the Philippine education landscape,” DepEd said.
Meanwhile, DepEd noted that other regions “may participate” in the pilot implementation of the revised K to 10 curriculum “when deemed necessary.”
Launched in August, the MATATAG Curriculum features a “decongested curriculum” that focuses on focus on foundational skills, balanced cognitive demands, and clearer articulation of 21st-century skills.
One of its highlights is “intensified” Values Education and Peace Education.
With reduced learning areas, the MATATAG Curriculum aims to address challenges in basic education and ensure that the quality of education in the country will be “on a par with international standards.”
During the launch of the MATATAG Curriculum, Vice President and Education Secretary Sara Duterte said that the new K to 10 curriculum is a “significant leap towards a better, more promising future for our learners.”
The MATATAG Curriculum, she added, also “offers a glowing promise in our campaign to improve the country’s basic education as it brings to life our dreams and aspirations for our learners and our country.”

While the pilot implementation starts this school year, DepEd said that MATATAG Curriculum shall be implemented in phases: SY 2024-2025 for Kindergarten, Grades 1, 4, and,7; SY 2025-2026 for Grades 2, 5, and 8; SY 2026-2027 for Grades 3, 6, and 9; and SY 2027-2028 for Grade 10.
