Five mobile applications to use to check air quality
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) has issued a warning about the high levels of sulfur dioxide being emitted by Taal Volcano in Batangas, which is causing volcanic smog or "vog" in the surrounding areas.
According to PHIVOLCS, vog consists of fine droplets containing volcanic gas such as SO2, which are acidic and can cause irritation of the eyes, throat and respiratory tract. The severity of these effects depends on the gas concentrations and durations of exposure.
As a result, you may want to increase your awareness of the Air Quality Index (AQI) in your specific area to monitor daily air quality conditions and take appropriate measures to protect your health.
Here are five applications to use to check air quality:

1. Philippines Air Quality Index
The Philippines Air Quality Index app, an official mobile application of the Environmental Management Bureau – Central Office (EMB-CO) under the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), monitors air quality and pollution at various stations nationwide.
The app features a user-friendly map interface that offers a 24-hour visualization of the Air Quality Index (AQI) and environmental data for comparison and reporting. Users can easily access a list of monitoring stations and pinpoint them on the map. The app also uses color-coded indicators based on US EPA standards for clear interpretation of AQI values at each station.

2. Plume Labs
Plume Labs offers a range of apps and devices that empower people with information about air quality. Primarily focusing on raising awareness about air pollution and aiding individuals in making informed decisions to safeguard their health.
The app gives real-time pollution levels locally and globally, along with street-level pollution maps for major cities and detailed air quality forecasts for the next 72 hours—just like a weather forecast.

3. AirVisual
AirVisual by IQAir offers key features for air pollution safety, including real-time air quality and weather updates, plus alerts for subpar outdoor air quality.
The AirVisual Pro sensor by IQAir device, provides real-time measurements of PM2.5, PM10, Ozone, NO2, CO2, and SO2 levels. Note that not all cities monitor all six pollutants. The app provides access to diverse resources like a live world map, pollution articles, health tips, and air pollution news and education.

4. AirNow
The AirNow mobile app simplifies checking and tracking air quality. It shows the AQI for your chosen area, lets you save multiple areas for quick reference, offers location-specific reports on current air quality and forecasts for ozone and PM2.5 pollution, provides visual air quality maps across the nation, and explains health actions at various AQI levels.

5. AirMatters
AirMatters is a mobile app that offers real-time air quality information and forecasts, helping users make healthier choices by providing data on pollution levels, allergens, and weather conditions to stay informed about the air they breathe.
All these applications are available via Apple App Store and Google Play.
