Woman arrested for 'investment scam' in Bulacan International Airport project
A woman, who claimed to be involved as sub-contractor in the construction of the Bulacan International Airport project, has been arrested in an entrapment operation conducted by the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) in Quezon City last Sept. 15.
In a statement issued on Thursday, Sept. 21, the NBI identified her as Evelyn M. Hernandez, also known as "Jing Hernandez,"
The NBI said that Hernandez represented herself as sub-contractor of one of the principal contractors engaged by BM Logistics, Inc. (BMLI) in the Bulacan airport project in partnership with San Miguel Corporation.
It said, however, that a certification issued by the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) disclosed that “BMLI is not a registered corporation.”
“The Complainant informed the operatives of NBI-AOTCD that he agreed to meet with Subject Hernandez to handover the down payment of P50,000 for the two (2) investment slots,” it said.
It added the complainant said that the "required investment per slot is P3,500,000 and a profit of P50,000,000 within a span of five (5) years, to be given on a monthly basis."
With her arrest, Hernandez was charged with estafa under Article 315, paragraph 2(a) of the Revised Penal Code (RPC) in relation to Section 6 of Republic Act (RA) 10175, the Cybercrime Law; and violation of Section 8.1 of R.A. 8799, the Securities Regulation Code of the Philippines.
