Katy Perry sells publishing rights for $225 million
Litmus Music, as supported by the private equity powerhouse Carlyle Group LP, announced on Monday that they have acquired the publishing rights to many of Katy Perry’s songs for $225 million dollars.
According to Litmus Music, these include songs from five studio albums released under Capitol Records: "One Of The Boys," "Teenage Dream," "Prism," "Witness," and "Smile."
Note that some of the hits in the catalog include “Thinking Of You,” “I Kissed A Girl,” “Hot N Cold,” “Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.),” “California Gurls,” “Firework,” “Roar,” and “Dark Horse,” to name some.
In a deal valued at $225 million, Litmus Music secured not only the publishing rights but also the master recordings of the said albums.
Litmus Music, which made its debut in 2022, previously acquired the rights to Keith Urban's master recordings.
It's worth noting that while Katy Perry has relinquished her stake in the master recordings and publishing rights, the sound recordings remain under the ownership of Universal Music Group.
