Chinese fugitive intercepted at NAIA -- BI

A Chinese national, who has an arrest warrant in his country on charges of illegal gambling operations, has been intercepted at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) before he could board his flight for Malaysia last Monday, Sept. 18.

The Bureau of Immigration (NBI) identified the intercepted Chinese fugitive as Jiang Ning, 27, whose arrest has been ordered by the Qijiang District Public Security Bureau of Chongqing Municipality.

The BI said that "Jiang is the subject of an Interpol red notice after allegedly being wanted in China for involvement in setting up a gambling group which was said to control 14 gambling platforms for illegal profits in China and the Philippines.”

“His group was said to have operated from 2014 to 2021, and have induced more than 100,000 Chinese to engage in gambling activities,” it said.

“He was charged for opening a casino in violation of the Criminal Law of China, and faces a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison,” it added.

Immigration officers stopped Jiang from departing after they found that he has a derogatory record in the BI’s system," it also said.

Jiang is now detained at the BI's facility in Taguig City pending his deportation.
