Acting head of Davao Prison relieved for delayed report on PDL's escape
The acting superintendent of the Davao Prison and Penal Farm (DPPF) has been relieved from his post for not immediately reporting that a person deprived of liberty (PDL) escaped from the facility last Sept. 13.
Relieved from his post was C/Supt. Rufino A. Martin in an order issued by Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) Diector General Gregorio Pio P. Catapang Jr.
“If there are any untoward incidents in various colonies, I don’t want to be the last to know, so this will serve as a warning to all BuCor officials,” Catapang said.
Catapang received the report on the escape of PDL Jundee Cano only on Tuesday, Sept. 19. "Cano was rearrested on Sept. 17 but the report was only forwarded to the BuCor main office only on Sept. 19," BuCor said in a statement.
“Based on his initial report to Catapang, Martin said that Cano was rearrested in a hot pursuit with the help of the members of Damulog Municipal Police Station,” it said.
It added that Catapang is still awaiting the final report on the incident.
