Another lawyers' group prods authorities to solve slay of lady lawyer in Abra
Another lawyers' group has joined the calls for the immediate arrest of the perpetrators in the killing last Sept. 14 of a lady lawyer in Bangued, Abra.
The Philippine Bar Association (PBA), in a statement said: "We cannot bring back Atty. Ma. Saniata Liwliwa Gonzales-Alzate and the rest of our brethren who were similarly murdered, but we can begin making things right by bringing the perpetrators to justice."
It said: "If we are to truly honor them, we must make this profession safe once again. Seving the public interest should not mean a death sentence,"
It lamented that “Atty. Alzate’s death is yet another example that in our country, the legal profession has become inherently dangerous.”
It cited that in the past six years, more than 60 lawyers were kiled and this year, "three more were added to the tally."
Alzate was killed at around 4:55 pm Thursday, Sept. 14, in front of her house in Bengued, Abra by two unidentified assailants who quickly fled the scene aboard motorcycles.
