Taiwanese fugitive wanted for arms trafficking arrested in Cavite

A Taiwanese fugitive wanted in his country for arms trafficking has been arrested in Cavite, the Bureau of Immigration (BI) announced on Friday, Sept. 15.

In a statement, the BI identified the foreigner as Chen Kai-Wu who was arrested by the bureau's Fugitive Search Unit (BI-FSU) last Sept. 14 in General Trias City in Cavite.

"Chen was tagged as a fugitive from justice by the Taiwanese government and is considered an undesirable alien,” the BI said.

It said that “Chen is a subject of an arrest warrant issued by the Shilin District Prosecutors Office for violation of Controlling Guns, Ammunition and Knives Act of Taiwan in May 2023, and said to be a leader of a notorious Taiwanese syndicate involved in arms trafficking."

At the same time, BI said that “Chen was also involved in facilitating an unlawful entry of another Taiwanese fugitive into the Philippines.”

Chen is detained at the BI's facility in Taguig City pending the deportation proceedings against him.
