Manager of medical clinic in Manila arrested, charged for 'stealing" P585,806
The manager of a medical clinic in Manila was arrested by the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) for allegedly stealing P585,806 in sales and profits of the firm.
The NBI identified the arrested manager as Casimero Lopez of Clemens Medical Clinic. He was charged with qualified theft after his arrest last Sept. 8 by agents of the NBI's Anti-Organized and Transnational Crimes Division (NBI-AOTCD) based on the complaint filed by the clinic's owner.
“According to the Complainant and a witness, as the Company’s manager, Subject is in charge of the operations of the company and has sole access to the vault of the establishment where the sales/profit of the company are being stored,” the NBI said.
“On September 7, 2023, the Complainant discovered that P585,806 was missing based on the Financial Report submitted by the Company’s Accounting Staff,” it said.
Because of the discovery, the NBI said the complainant inquired with Subject Lopez the following day regarding the missing money.
The NBI said Lopez “immediately admitted that he had taken the said missing amount and invested the same and expected to be returned in August 2023, but was unsuccessful.”
It said the complaint managed to record the admission of Lopez who promised to return the amount after a week.
After receiving the recording of the admission, the bureau said “NBI-AOTCD immediately conducted an investigation and proceeded to the company’s address on Sep. 8, 2023.”
“Based on the evidence and statements of the witnesses, it was confirmed that Subject Lopez committed an offense, NBI-AOTCD placed him under arrest,” it said.
