The Philippine government has not received any report of Filipinos affected by the massive flooding in Libya, which has left thousands of people dead and missing, the embassy in Tripoli reported, even while it is also experiencing communication difficulties.
According to the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA), the Philippine Embassy in Tripoli was already informed by Filipino community coordinators in the area that there are no reported Filipino casualties.
About 1,100 Filipinos live in Libya, including the 90 who live reside in areas badly hit by the storm that caused the flooding.
Most of the Filipinos there are working as nurses and clinical instructors, who were already relocated to higher grounds by the hospital management at the height of the typhoon, the DFA said.
"Communication is difficult as electricity has not been restored in most areas," the DFA said.
"Tripoli PE (Philippine Embassy) has reached out to the Filipino community leaders there and continues to monitor developments in regard to the disaster," it added.
