Police Chief Master Sergeant Alraquib Aguel arrived at the office and got into a heated discussion with Police Executive Master Sergeant Heriberto Saguiped that resulted in a shooting incident.
Taguig police chief Col. Robert Baesa said Saguiped was shot dead by Aguel, who was also wounded when another police officer shot him to neutralize him, fearing that he would be his next target.
Aguel also shot and wounded Corporal Louie Alison Sindac who is now in critical condition at a hospital. Aguel is also in the hospital for treatment.
In a statement, the SPD said, “The men and women of Southern Police District, under the leadership of PBGen Roderick D. Mariano sincerely convey our deepest sympathies to the bereaved family of PEMS Heriberto Saguiped who succumbed to death in an unfortunate shooting incident last August 7, 2023 inside the Community Affairs Section of Taguig City Police Station.”
“Likewise, we offer our prayers to the fast recovery of PCpl Louie Alison Sindac who was injured and still recuperating in the hospital while a thorough, swift and impartial probe is being undertaken to determine the facts and circumstances before, during and after the tragic incident,” it said.
The SPD said that “security adjustments and appropriate proactive interventions will also be introduced to avoid this kind of incident in the future as we vow that justice will be done, the soonest possible time.”
“On this trying time and moving forward, SPD will continue to Serve with Pride and Dignity,” it said.
Reports indicated that Aguel, a Muslim, got angry when he saw Saguiped cooking a pork meal that led to the heated argument.
