Woman arrested for smuggling drugs into prison


BUTUAN CITY – A woman was arrested for allegedly smuggling drugs into the Butuan City Jail on Thursday, August 3, police reported Saturday, August 5.

Initial investigation disclosed that the suspect was visiting a Person Deprived of Liberty (PDL) but yielded three sachets of suspected shabu with an estimated weight of seven grams and a standard drug price of P47,600 tucked into her torn slipper when she went through an inspection.

The Bureau of Jail Management and Penology 13 and Butuan City Police Office Station 3 are conducting thorough investigation to arrest the suspect’s contacts in the illicit drug trade.

PRO-13 Director Police Brig. Gen. Kirby John B. Kraft said the suspect will be charged for violation of Republic Act No. 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.

“PRO-13, in collaboration with other law enforcement agencies, will continue to work diligently to suppress illegal drugs and other illegal activities in the region,” he said.

“Through our program thrust SAFE or police officers must be ‘Seen, Approachable, Felt, and Efficient,’ we will double our efforts to ensure public safety and internal security,” Kraft  added.
