  • How about a Metro Manila Film Festival with four different entries, each one starring Nora Aunor, Vilma Santos, Sharon Cuneta and Maricel Soriano?

What a coincidence that young actress Andrea Brillantes, lead star in the new series, “Senior High,” has turned controversial following a social media post where she asked a high-profile athlete to date her.

Earlier, the former child actress issued a mouthful of sexy innuendos against an ex-boyfriend, an athlete. The double-bladed remarks have turned viral, hastening Andrea’s transition as an adult and providing her with a sexy image.

Thank God “Senior High,” ABS-CBN and iWantTFC’s new primetime series, allows the young actress an opportunity to showcase her newfound maturity both as a person and as an actress.

For whatever it’s worth, Andrea’s being the talk of the town is winging her new show some mileage. Yet, in fairness to the production group, Dreamscape, the program bears watching, not only for its set of talented, fast-rising young actors; more so, for the timely message it shares.

We were fully engaged in watching the Aug. 27 invitational series premiere at Trinoma-QC, amazed at the show’s fast pacing, messaging, and performances.

“Senior High” serves as a launching pad for the careers of Kyle Echarri, Juan Karlos, Elijah Canlas, Zaijian Jaranilla, Xyriel Manabat, Daniela Stranner, Juan Karlos, and Miggy Jimenez.

The mystery-thriller series, airing at 9:30 PM, sheds light on issues affecting today’s youth, such as bullying, depression, anxiety, and everything else about mental health. It tells the story of two teenage girls from a poor background thrust into an upper-crust exclusive school.

If the MMFF aims for star quality and prestige, it will do good if it would field the entries of the four renowned actresses in one filmfest. Such will mark the first time in MMFF history. An event. Nora headlines the suspense-drama, Pieta, with Alfred Vargas, Gina Alajar, Jaclyn Jose.

Vilma reunites with Christopher de Leon in an adult romantic comedy, When I Met You In Tokyo.
Sharon’s and Maricel’s entries have the word ‘mother’ on them. Mother and Son’s Story for Sharon and Alden Richards, and In His Mother’s Eyes for Maricel and Roderick Paulate.

Nora, Vilma, Sharon, and Maricel are considered the last movie queens in Philippine entertainment. The rest that followed are TV and other media queenlets.

PASSERBY: Rocco Nacino bounces back to a lead role in suspense-drama thriller The Missing Husband, together with Yasmien Kurdi,  Jak Roberto, Sophie Albert, Joross Gamboa and Nadine Samonte.

While Rocco plays the title role, will he be missing in action for the most part in the series that opened Aug. 28?

Falling for and losing in an investment scam is the theme of GMA’s current afternoon offering.
