As of Aug. 25, the latest data from the Learner Information System (LIS) Quick Count for SY 2023-2024 showed that the total number of registered students for the upcoming school year has reached 21,029,531.

DepEd said that the highest number of enrollees was recorded in Region IV-A with 3,323,943; followed by the National Capital Region (NCR) with 2,437,041; and Region III with 2,394,421.

The enrollment data included learners from public and private schools as well as State Universities and Colleges (SUCs) and Local Universities and Colleges (LUCs) that offer basic education programs.

As announced by DepEd, the enrollment will be until Aug. 26.

While the enrollment period officially ended, DepEd said schools will still accommodate late enrollees.

In a DZBB interview on Aug. 24, DepEd Assistant Secretary and Deputy Spokesperson Francis Cesar Bringas said that while late enrollees will still be accepted, the agency strongly encourages parents to enlist their children before the first day of classes.

Classes in public schools will start on Aug. 29 as announced by DepEd.

“We will still allow late enrollees, but we are not encouraging them to enroll late, so it's better if they enroll earlier,” Bringas said in English and Filipino.

During the launch of the Oplan Balik Eskwela 2023 (OBE) on Aug. 15, DepEd said it is expecting 28 million enrollees for this SY.

While the current figures have yet to reach the expected number of enrollees, DepEd expressed confidence that “real numbers” will come in during the first weeks of classes.

“The department is confident that during the first week, we will have our final or actual enrollment figures because we know that these numbers come from our LIS,” Bringas said.

The enrollment figures, he explained, are sent from the regions to the central database.

“It's possible that many of our schools have not yet updated their LIS, so eventually, we will also see our final numbers during the first two weeks of classes,” he added.
