The enrollment period in public schools will officially start next week, the Department of Education (DepEd) said in its issuance dated Friday, Aug. 4.

“Enrollment shall start on August 7, 2023 and shall end on August 26, 2023,” the agency said in DepEd Order No. 22 series of 2023 or the Implementing Guideline on the School Calendar and Activities for the School Year 2023-2024 signed by Vice President and Education Secretary Sara Duterte.
In the issuance, DepEd said schools and community learning centers (CLS) are expected to facilitate the process of registering learners into the Learner Information System (LIS) “upon the submission of the required supporting documents.”
The start of classes for public schools this incoming school year was also officially announced in the issuance.

DepEd said that the SY 2023-2024 will start on Aug. 29 and will end on June 14, 2024.
School calendar and activities
DepEd said that the implementing guidelines were issued to allow the schools and CLCs as well as schools division and regional offices to “continuously improve management and operations related to the implementation of school activities and enhancement of the teaching-learning process.”
The said guidelines, DepEd said, will cover public elementary and secondary schools, including CLCs, across the country.
DepEd noted that private schools as well as higher education institutions that offer basic education may also adopt these guidelines but “shall not deviate” from the provisions stipulated under the Republic Act (RA) No. 11480 which mandates that the school calendar shall consist of not more than 220 days.
Aside from the enrollment period, among the activities included in the school calendar is the conduct of the Early Registration period for incoming Kindergarten, Grades 1, 7, and 11 learners last May 10 to June 9 and the conduct of the “Brigada Eskwela” from Aug. 14 to 19.

The conduct of “Oplan Balik Eskwela” (OBE) which is an annual initiative that engages agencies, organizations, and other stakeholders in preparation for the school opening of the new school year was also announced from Aug. 14 to 26.
The school calendar also outlined the classroom-based and system assessment to be used in monitoring the progress of learners; the conduct of career guidance activities; and general assembly and parent-teacher conferences.
The Christmas Break schedule, to start on Dec. 18 to Jan. 2, 2024, was also announced as well as the resumption of classes on Jan. 3, 2024.
The End-of-School-Year break was also scheduled from June 17 to Aug. 25, 2024.
