AUDIOJUNKIE: Random Access Pinoy Pop

From Ppop, rap, R&B to band-styled rock, here’s a rundown of recently released GenZ flavored OPM.

One of Pinoy Pop’s favorite local sons ALAMAT is back with a tuneful new track titled “Walang Hanggan.” This mid-tempo pop ballad finds Jao, Mo, R-ji, Tomas, Taneo and Alas yearning for a love they believe is worth fighting for. Their loyal fans can imagine the boys singing this one for them and that would make listening to this tune doubly fun for them.

Cean Jr. is recently torching the charts with his hot R&B single “Y2.” And as that one sits pretty on Billboard and Spotify playlists, listeners can chew on a new track of his called "Usapan." Here he jams with “BMW” rapper Because.

"It all started with the chorus I made and afterwards, Because wrote the verse and gave the song a wider range or concept," Cean Jr. shares.

According to him, this can be considered a straightforward what-you-hear-is-what-you-get type of song. And what you get off "Usapan" is a highly suggestive ‘sex song.’

Representing the Tiktok generation is “Kisame” rising star rhodessa who drops a new song titled “Mina(mahal ko).” According to the newly minted hit singer, the song is another ode to her overflowing girl-crush to Twice member Mina Myoi as the title shows. Now that’s clever, but it won’t mean a thing if this tune doesn’t swing, which thankfully, it does. This song is about reigniting a love once lost and then found. Chalk up another relatable song for this new GenZ alt-pop fave.

Hit pop rock outfit This Band returns with their new solid sounding original song titled “Pano Maging Tayo.” On this outing, This Band – lead singer Andrea, songwriter Euwie, and the rhythm section of keyboardist Carson, bassit Mikki, lead guitarist Raymart and drummer John–get some vocal assist from R&B singer Anthony Meneses. The resulting collaboration (written by Euwie and Anthony) is a song steeped in old school R&B and executed beautifully by this fan-fave band known widely as the Hugot band of the Philippines.

Tu$ Brother$ returns with a pulsing and head bobbing single titled "Orochimaru." The Tu$ Brother$ intends to rock the house with this hard party track inspired by Naruto character Orochimaru. This Trap-beat driven track is equal parts aggressive and adrenaline pumping as designed by Tu$ Brother$. The same air of menace seems to permeate their new EP titled “Bawal Tus.” Over six tracks, Tu$ Brother$ grooves hard on head-bobbing new tracks such as previously released tracks such as the John Cena-inspired “Can’t See Me” and “Olaf.”  Also included here are “Amigo,” “Asta La Vista,” and “Sh!t Happens.” Turn the volume up, hard!

Alt-rock band FourPlay and their song “Mag-isa” takes inspiration from mid-90’s alt-rock and comes up with a delightfully tune that tickles the memory cards of our brain but comes out winning with a song that’s refreshingly different. According to the band, this one is about “a man who watches his significant other slowly fade away.”

MADAM is O/C Records’ quirky take on P-pop. The roster of MADAM includes OC’s alternative pop acts with singer-songwriters Mitzi Negado (EMN98), Alyssa Remulla (a.k.a. Aly Remulla), Alyssa Janine Cruz (ALYSSA) and Ashlee Factor (a.k.a. Pappel). Their debut single “Narara” is about the tension of revealing their feelings to the person they like and the fear of unreciprocated love. Taking advantage of their talent as songwriters too, they all contributed to the song’s lyrics piece by piece.
