Pop star Dua Lipa is facing a new lawsuit involving her global hit “Levitating.”
An infringement lawsuit was filed last July 31 at a US District Court by a music producer named Bosko Kante who alleged that Dua Lipa used his work without permission.
The complaint pointed out that one of the producers credited in the Dua Lipa hit, one Stephen Kozmeniuk, approached Kante in 2019 to create a ‘talkbox vocal’ for the track.
Kante said his agreement with Kozmeniuk is that his performance will only be used on the original album version of the song and not on remixes.
The complainant alleges that his work was included in 3 remix versions of “Levitating” that was released since.
One version of the remix that features rapper DaBaby, has close to 2 billion streams.
Dua Lipa was sued previously by a band called Artikal Sound System for supposedly approximating their own song titled “Live Your Life” for "Levitating."
A US District judge dismissed the case saying the complainant failed to prove that Dua Lipa and the creators of the track had access to “Live Your Life” prior to making the song.
