“He was immediately taken to the hospital where he underwent a comprehensive medical examination including an MRI scan. During the examination, a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) was identified in the left knee,” it said.
It said that S.Coups “is receiving necessary medical treatment prior to the surgery as recommended by the medical staff, and will undergo surgery as soon as possible. We will provide another update on the progression of treatments and his rehabilitation schedule at a later time.”
“S.Coups will be unable to participate in the majority of official activities for the foreseeable future, and will focus on his recovery through surgery and rehabilitation. We would like to extend our deepest apology to his fans for any distress or worry this may have caused,” the agency said.
Pledis Entertainment added, “The artist is highly determined to attend all of the group’s prearranged engagements. However, his participation will be adjusted depending on the circumstances, placing his recovery as the top most priority as per recommendation of the medical staff. We will do our best to aid in S.Coups’s treatment and recovery so that he can return in full health to his fans as quickly as possible.”
According to the Mayo Clinic website, “An ACL injury is a tear or sprain of the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) — one of the strong bands of tissue that help connect your thigh bone (femur) to your shinbone (tibia). ACL injuries most commonly occur during sports that involve sudden stops or changes in direction, jumping and landing — such as soccer, basketball, football and downhill skiing.”
During ACL surgery, “the surgeon removes the damaged ligament and replaces it with a segment of tendon — tissue similar to a ligament that connects muscle to bone. This replacement tissue is called a graft.”
“Your surgeon will use a piece of tendon from another part of your knee or a tendon from a deceased donor. After surgery you'll resume another course of rehabilitative therapy. Successful ACL reconstruction paired with rigorous rehabilitation can usually restore stability and function to your knee,” the website added.
Last Aug. 15, K-pop group NCT member Taeil suffered a thigh fracture and was taken to the hospital.
“Taeil got into an accident while riding his motorcycle home from work and was taken to the hospital for a detailed examination and treatment,” said SM Entertainment. “As a result of the examination, he was diagnosed with a fracture [or broken bone] in his right thigh, and medical staff advised that he needed surgery,” it said.
