Ex-broadcaster Jay Sonza arrested at NAIA, turned over to Quezon City jail

Former broadcaster Jay Sonza was arrested at the Terminal III of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) last month, and was turned over by the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) to the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP).

Bureau of Immigration (BI) Spokesperson Dana Mengote-Sandoval said the Sonza was arrested at NAIA last July 18 after he presented himself for immigration inspection for his travel to Hongkong.

Sandoval said that Sonza was barred from taking his flight after “BI records show that he has an active watchlist due to a warrant of arrest for Criminal Case no. R-QZN-14-11007 to 17-CR (Estafa, 11 counts), signed by Hon. Presiding Judge Editha G. Mina-Aguba.”

“Upon verification, it was established that the passenger and the subject of the WLO (watch list order) is one and the same person,” she said.

Thus, Sandoval said that Sonza was “turned over to the NBI which arrested him.”

BJMP’s Jail Chief Inspector Jayrex Joseph Bustinera confirmed that Sonza was turned over by the NBI last Aug. 3.

Bustinera said that Sonza “is in Quezon City Jail-Ligtas Covid Center Quarantine Facility, in Payatas.”
