The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) on Saturday, Aug. 12 monitored more rockfall events in Mayon Volcano.

In the last 24 hours, Phivolcs recorded 201 rockfall events in Mayon which is slightly higher compared to the 180 incidents logged on Aug. 11.

Meanwhile, Phivolcs said the volcano showed a "slow effusion" of lava from the crater with lengths of 2.8 kilometers (km) in Mi-is (south), 3.4 km in Bonga (southeastern), one km in Basud Gullies, and four km of lava collapse from the crater.
Moreover, Phivolcs also recorded 100 volcanic earthquakes with one ash fall event and 58 volcanic tremors that lasted one to 13 minutes.
Phivolcs also noted the seven pyroclastic density currents (PDC), 1888 tonnes per day since Aug. 11, and 800 meters of volcanic plumes in east-southeast and east-northeast drift.
Alert Level 3 stays
Phivolcs added that Mayon Volcano remained on Alert Level 3, which means "hazardous eruption within weeks or even days could still be possible."
It is strongly advised that entry into the six-kilometer permanent danger zone and flying any aircraft close to the volcano are strictly prohibited.
This is due to the possibilities of rockfalls or landslides, ballistic fragments, lava flows or lava fountaining, pyroclastic density currents, moderate-sized explosions, and lahars during heavy and prolonged rainfall. (Rhowen Del Rosario)
