Jose Adrian “Jad” Dera, a National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) detainee who was arrested upon his return to his detention cell after going out without authority, has been transferred to the Muntinlupa City jail.
Muntinlupa City Regional Trial Court (RTC) Judge Abraham Joseph B. Alcantara ordered Dera’s transfer on motion filed by the NBI itself.
Dera is a co-accused of former senator Leila M. de Lima in her illegal drugs case pending at the Muntinlupa City RTC. He is also facing other criminal charges.
“I got a report that he was transferred back to BJMP (Bureau of Jail Management and Penology) yesterday in Muntinlupa,” said DOJ Assistant Secretary Jose Dominic F. Clavano IV during an interview on CNN Philippines.
Dera and six NBI security personnel are facing a criminal complaint before the DOJ for being caught last June 21 returning to NBI detention facility after going out without permission.
During a Senate inquiry, Dera himself admitted he had gone out several times with NBI security personnel.
Clavano said “there are only two instances where a detainee can validly or legally brought out the detention center: one is via a court order and two via extreme medical condition wherein it is no longer possible to seek the clearance of the court.”
“Give us a week or two to get all the documents, all the logbooks. We’ll probably finish up the investigation by then,” he said.
He also said the six NBI security personnel included a permanent employee with a rank of Security Officer 2 and five job orders.
“The NBI immediately terminated the services of those five. As for the permanent employee a completely different process has to be undertaken,” he said.
“We’re looking at reshuffling all the people in the security management section,” he also said.
