Apayao records P148-M agriculture loss to 'Egay'


LUNA, Apayao – This province has sustained almost P148 million in damage to agriculture  from typhoon "Egay."

The Office of the Provincial Agricultural Services said that 3,242.45 hectares of cultivated land have been affected -- 116.45 planted to high-value crops, fruit trees, and vegetables and 3,131 to corn.

Damage to corn was P128.4 million, with the municipality of Pudtol sustaining the highest at P40,140,750 and Flora the least with P7,221,450.

More than 1,900 farmers have been affected.

Gov. Elias Bulut Jr. said necessary work is being done to ensure that mitigating measures and proper response shall be made to ease the impact of Egay on Apayao farmers.
