Bilibid lifts red alert status; jail visits still suspended
The New Bilibid Prison (NBP) in Muntinlupa City lifted on Thursday, July 27, its red alert status that was imposed last July 25 after the death of a person deprived of liberty (PDL) during a fight among prisoners.
But the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) said that jail visitations are still suspended until further notice.
On Tuesday night, July 25, PDL Alvin Barba died when he was stabbed during the squabble among PDLs.
There were also nine inmates who sustained injuries during the incident and they were identified as Ampatuan Misuari, Emmanuel Carino, Makakna Iman, Marlon Cepe, Bernand Marfilla, Franklin Siquijor, Joner Moralde, Heron Supitran and Ardie Severa.
BuCor had earlier said there was “a misunderstanding between two PDLs belonging to Bahala na Gang and Batang City Jail.”
“Although the duo was immediately pacified, one of the PDLs who was not a party to the earlier misunderstanding fired a gun prompting other PDLs to panic and scuffled to safety,” it said.
PDL Joseph Serrano who fired the gun has been placed under investigation to find out his possession of the firearm inside NBP. A probe has also started on Barba’s death.
