CEBU CITY – Twenty-six children and two adults were hospitalized for suspected food poisoning in a dormitory here on Friday afternoon, June 23.
Dr. Ester Concha, chief of the city Department of Social Welfare and Services (DSWS), said the victims fell ill after eating rice and fish for lunch.
Concha said it was possible that some of the fish was spoiled but the cook was unable to notice it.
Although the fish were kept in a freezer, some of them already had red eyes, Concha said.
The DSWS-run dormitory houses children who have been victims of physical abuse and rescued by authorities.
After eating lunch, the children and two house parents complained of stomach ache and dizziness.
The victims were rushed to the Cebu City Medical Center. “They were put on IV and they are already in stable condition,” said Concha.
