San Ramon Prison officials, personnel commended for 'thwarting planned mass escape of PDLs'
Officials and personnel of San Ramon Prison and Penal Farm (SRPPF) in Zamboanga City have been commended by the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) for having thwarted the “planned mass escape” of persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) last February.
Awarded certificates of commendations were SRPPF Superintendent Vic Domingo F. Suyat, Director for Security Operation Roberto Veneracion, Assistant Regional Superintendent for Security and Operations Julius Pareja, and corrections officers Allan Macaso, Alvin Albarracin, Silverio Garcia, and Jonathan Paingan.
BuCor said that SRPPF personnel received at about 6:30 p.m. last February 13 “an information from a reliable source that a number of Muslim PDLs is plotting a mass escape with the help of Abu Sayyaf Group.”
It said the information disclosed that “the plan was hatched in November 2022 through messenger account owned by PDL Sahid Alip who recruited other PDLs to join him,’.”
“The information further disclosed that a diversionary tactics of bombing will be conducted in Zamboanga City simultaneously with the rescue operation in San Ramon Prison and Penal Farm (SRPPF) using two motorized sea craft prompting the officers to place SRPPF on red alert status,” it said.
Simultaneously, it also said, the information was relayed to the Philippine National Police (PNP) in Region 9 and to the local government units.
“Security was augmented at SRPPF,” it added.
“Imagine if this was not discovered by our personnel,“ BuCor Director General Gregorio Pio P. Catapang Jr. said in a statement.
