A lawyer and president emeritus (honorary) of the Chinese Filipino Business Club, Inc. has been appointed deputy commissioner of the Bureau of Immigration (BI)
Appointed by President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. last April 28 was Atty. Daniel Y. Laogan who took his oath of office before Executive Secretary Lucas P. Bersamin.
Deputy Commissioner Laogan also took his oath of office before Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin C. Remulla at the Department of Justice (DOJ) to which BI is an attached agency.
BI officials and employees, led by Commissioner Norman G. Tansingco, welcomed the appointment and assumption to office of Laogan.
The new BI deputy commissioner had served as a member of the board of directors of the Development Bank of the Philippines (DBP) from 2010 to 2016.
After his DBP stint, Laogan resumed his private law practice from where he was plucked out by President Marcos Jr. to serve as BI deputy commissioner.
The Chinese Filipino Business Club, Inc., in which Laogan served as president, is a non-profit organization of Filipino-Chinese community. Founded in 1998, its members are businessmen in finance, manufacturing, real estate development, travel and tourism, and in the fuel, chemical, hardware, construction, banking and other sectors.
