Nine areas in the country could experience a “danger” level heat index, reaching at least 42 degrees Celsius (°C), on Tuesday, April 8, said the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).

In its highest heat index forecast on Monday, April 7, PAGASA said Virac, Catanduanes and Sangley Point, Cavite City, Cavite could register a heat index of 44°C and 43°C, respectively, on Tuesday.

Other areas that may experience a heat index of 42°C include Dagupan City, Pangasinan; Cubi Pt., Subic Bay, Olongapo City, Pampanga; San Jose, Occidental Mindoro; Cuyo, Palawan; Roxas City, Capiz; Iloilo City, Iloilo; and Dumangas, Iloilo.

A heat index between 42°C and 51°C is considered dangerous, as it increases the likelihood of heat cramps and heat exhaustion. Prolonged exposure to such extreme conditions can lead to heatstroke.
