Danger level heat index seen in 18 areas on April 12

Eighteen areas in the country may experience a “danger” level heat index—reaching at least 42 degrees Celsius (°C)—on Saturday, April 12, said the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).

In its forecast, PAGASA said Sangley Point in Cavite City, Cavite ptovince could record the highest heat index at 45°C.

Other areas expected to experience heat indices between 42°C and 44°C include Dagupan City in Pangasinan; Echague in Isabela; Camiling in Tarlac; Ambulong in Tanauan, Batangas; Iloilo City, Iloilo; Ninoy Aquino International Airport in Pasay City; Tuguegarao City, Cagayan; Cubi Pt. in Subic Bay, Olongapo City; San Ildefonso in Bulacan; Infanta in Quezon; San Jose in Occidental Mindoro; Cuyo in Palawan; Virac in Catanduanes; Masbate City in Masbate; Roxas City in Capiz; Dumangas in Iloilo; and Dipolog in Zamboanga del Norte.

A heat index ranging from 42°C to 51°C falls under the danger classification, which poses a heightened risk of heat cramps and heat exhaustion.

Prolonged exposure may also lead to heatstroke.
