Peace and order in Cebu City still manageable despite series of robberies – police
CEBU CITY – The Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) assured that the peace and order situation here is still manageable amid a series of street robberies.
CCPO chief Police Col. Ireneo Dalogdog said petty crimes are expected to shoot up now that outdoor activities are back to normal.
“Our crime rate went down when there was limited movement because of the pandemic. Now that the situation is back to normal and Cebu being the center of tourism and commerce, we are expecting crime incidents to shoot up,” Dalogdog said.
A spate of robberies perpetrated by motorcycle-riding criminals were recorded the past few days here.
The separate incidents were captured by security cameras.
Last week, a medical worker was robbed while walking on a road near a hospital. In the video, the robber poked a gun at the victim before running away with the victim’s belongings. The robber fled on a motorcycle driven by an accomplice.
In Barangay Camputhaw last Tuesday, May 16, two men on a motorcycle robbed a woman walking by the road. Just a few minutes later, the same motorcycle-riding men robbed another woman in the same barangay.
With the series of incidents, Dalogdog advised the public to take extra care when walking in areas with less people.“As much as possible, don’t walk alone, especially in secluded areas,” said Dalogdog.
Robbery victims should also report to the police immediately instead of just posting the incident on social media.
“We have rogue’s galleries. There were incidents that the perpetrators were arrested right away because we were able to identify them through the rogue’s gallery. Report right away so that the police can take immediate action,” Dalogdog said.
