President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. had the "best mentor"--his late father, former president Ferdinand Marcos Sr.--when it comes to putting together a "stellar" Cabinet.

House Deputy Speaker and Batangas 6th district Rep. Ralph Recto had this to say amid an expected overhaul of Marcos Jr.'s Cabinet nearly a year after he assumed the Palace seat.

"I believe that the President will let competence, not connections, guide his hiring decisions," Recto said in statement Saturday, May 13.

"After all, he had the best mentor on this matter, in fact a legacy he carries, and that is how his father assembled his own Cabinet, which overall was a stellar cast of experts and professionals," he said, referring to the late Marcos Sr.

Marcos Sr. was Philippine president for 21 years.

The impending Cabinet rigodon coincidences with the lapse of the one-year appointment ban on individuals who ran but lost in the May 9, 2022 national elections.

"It is his (Marcos Jr.) duty, to effect personnel changes when his alter ego falters or fails in his work. Because when it happens, it is the people who will be punished by mediocrity. Sa basketball nga may substitution. When the ax falls, there is no room for sentimentality," Recto said.
