(CCDRRMO photo) The fire razed 32 houses while 20 others were damaged, said SFO3 Wendell Villanueva, information officer of the Cebu City Fire Office. Damage to property was pegged at P1.8 million, Villanueva said. The fire broke out at 5:45 p.m. and was contained at 6:15 p.m. “Most houses in the area are made of light materials that caused the fire to spread quickly. Our firefighters also had difficulty penetrating the fire scene because of narrow roads,” said Villanueva. Two residents sustained minor injuries while trying to save belongings while two others were attended to by medical personnel after complaining of difficulty in breathing. The cause of fire is still being investigated. CCFO has warned the people to be extra cautious as the extreme heat that the country is experiencing may trigger fire incidents. The fire in Ermita was the first major fire here after the observance of Fire Prevention Month. CCFO recorded 31 fire incidents last month, destroying P11 million in property. (Calvin D. Cordova)
