LGUs, DPWH district offices log high in corruption complaints

The Department of Justice (DOJ)-led Task Force Against Corruption (TFAC) has received 220 complaints involving various government agencies and a report has been submitted to President Duterte.
Justice Secretary Menardo I. Guevarra said “around 210 of these complaints had been acted upon quietly by the task force.”
He said “the agencies/units with the most number of complaints were various LGUs (local government units), followed closely by the DPWH (Department of Public Works and Highways).”
“Many of the complaints were about anomalous transactions perpetrated jointly by these LGUs and district engineering offices,” he noted.
He said the other agencies with large numbers of complaints include the Land Registration Authority (LRA), Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), Bureau of Customs (BoC), and various government-owned and controlled corporations (GOCCs).
“The TFAC endorsed at least 15 cases to the OMB (Office of the Ombudsman) for further investigation after a thorough evaluation,” he said.
“Another 15 cases were referred to the NBI (National Bureau of Investigation) for case build-up and possible criminal investigation, while the rest were referred to other pertinent government agencies for the conduct of administrative investigation,” he added.
