AUDIOJUNKIE: OC Records grows, Janno Gibbs return and the male solo balladeer

OC Records continues to grow with a heap of new releases that includes their new star MRLD versatile Keneniah, head OC himself Kean Cipriano, and more, and the return of the male solo act headed by the king of soul Janno Gibbs, balladeer Mark Carpio and the unassuming Wilbert Ross. Music wonder teen Keneniah returns with a new song titled “Hanggang Sa Buwan.” Borrowing from modern rock and pop, Keneniah offers this rising and lilting song inspired by the love story of Kalix and Luna from The Rain in Espanya by Gwy Saludes. “Hanggang Sa Buwan” is written by producer-songwriter and music artist Martin Riggs. Kean Cipriano returns with a new single titled “Until The End Of Time.” Here, Kean turns wistful in this musing tune about being with someone ‘until the end of time.’ OC Records people doubling as musicians Martin Riggs and Diego Manzano contributes guitar and bass respectively. OC’s bird drops a new wave -tinged track titled “maria.” Here, bird brandishes the shoe gaze-vibed rock sound that makes the band one of the torch bearer acts of alternative rock in the scene today. With their trademark, guitar-driven sound at the fore on this upbeat track about holding on to the past, said track also features Dorothy Cruz of the band Run Dorothy. As expected, Mark Carpio delivers his song in his usual heart-on-sleeve style and the result is an emotional delivery that tugs at the heartstrings. Mark Carpio manages to update the male solo balladeer mold with songs such as “Lihim” – giving a nod to Manila sound at the same time infusing it with modern pop stylings. Here, Wilbert Ross proves that he is getting better at every outing as a singer-songwriter and the proof is in the pudding as they say in this lovely song. Wilbert Ross is a proud Davaoeño and has a music production team in his home in the south where he usually records his own songs. Speaking of the south, there is the playful-sounding song titled “Bakit Ayaw Mo Sa Akin?” This upbeat mix of pop and rap is the latest song from SHAD. The track also features Prince Ben, Hey It's Je, Kunnns and all are proudly part of Viva South that’s slowly but surely defining the sound of OPM in the beautiful south.
