Popular singer turns to painting, and flourishes
Despite losing his job as a guest entertainer for international cruise lines due to the pandemic, the artist persevered and turned to painting
Reuben Laurente, an acclaimed performer and former member of vocal group The CompanY, is now showcasing his artistic skills as a visual artist through his first solo exhibit titled, "Pilipino Ako, Ito Ang Aking Lahi" (I am a Filipino, this is my race) under the auspices of the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA).
"MGA PAGDIRIWANG"
The exhibit features a total of 44 art pieces, including 18 of his early works from a decade ago, and 26 new works that he created during the pandemic years of 2020 to 2023.
"PILIPINO AKO, ITO ANG AKING LAHI" (48 x 36)
Despite losing his job as a guest entertainer for international cruise lines due to the pandemic, Reuben persevered and turned to painting, utilizing his strong faith and his 4 P's: positivity, proactivity, productivity, and prayer. With the NCCA Exhibit grant, Reuben had the opportunity to showcase his works and advance his career as a visual artist. The exhibit is curated by a team of creative professionals, including exhibit writer Yugel Losorata, photographer Dr. Raul Ceralde Supnet, and graphic artist Manuel Roma Jr.
LIMANG SAYAW (36 x 36)
The opening ceremony for the exhibit was a well attended affair. Notably, the event's guest of honor was National Artist for Music, Maestro Ryan Cayabyab, who was given the honor of cutting the ceremonial ribbon along with National Commission for Culture and Arts Executive Director, Oscar Casaysay.
