CEBU CITY – Two policemen here were relieved from their posts after they were caught sleeping in a patrol car parked along a road at dawn Thursday, April 13.
A netizen uploaded the photo of the two policemen, a Corporal and a Staff Sergeant, on social media.
The two police officers were assigned to the Mobile Patrol Unit of the Abellana Police Station.
They have been transferred to the Holding Admin Unit of the Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) while undergoing a pre-charge investigation, Police Col. Ireneo Dalogdog, chief of CCPO, told reporters on Thursday.
Police Major Nolan Tagsip, chief of the Abellana police, confirmed that the two police officers were on-duty at the time they were caught allegedly sleeping.
The two policemen’s duty was supposed to end at 8 a.m. Thursday after a 12-hour shift, said Tagsip.
As mobile patrol personnel, the two policemen were tasked to conduct roving crime-prone areas, Tagsip added.
Dalogdog warned station chiefs to always monitor their personnel as a repeat of similar incidents will also put them in trouble.
“If this incident like this happens again, the chief supervisor and immediate superior will also be held responsible for failure to supervise and monitor their personnel under the doctrine of command responsibility,” Dalogdog said.
Dalogdog said such offense will merit immediate relief.
“We will recommend immediate relief so that this kind of incident will serve as a lesson to other police officers,” said Dalogodog.
