‘Araw ng Kagitingan’ should continuously inspire Filipinos – Sec Remulla

Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin C. Remulla expressed hopes that the people will continuously be inspired by the sacrifices made by Filipinos during World War II.

In celebration of the “Araw ng Kagitingan” (Day of Valor) on Monday, April 10, Remulla said in his Facebook post: “Ang Araw ng Kagitingan o Day of Valor ay ating ipinagdiriwang bilang pag-alala sa naging labanan sa Bataan noong World War II kung saan marami sa ating mga kababayan ang nagbuwis ng kanilang buhay at nagpakita ng kanilang kabayanihan (We celebrate the Day of Valor to remember the battle in  Bataan during World War II when many of our countrymen sacrificed their lives and showed acts of heroism.”

“Bagaman ilang taon na ang nakakalipas, patuloy sanang magsilbing inspirasyon ang kanilang kagitingan upang ating ipakita ang pagmamahal sa Pilipinas (Though it happened many years ago, their valor should hopefully continue to serve as an inspiration in showing love for our country),” he also posted.

The Day of Valor is usually held every April 9 to commemorate to fall of Bataan to the Japanese Imperial Army on April 9, 1942.

This year’s celebration of “Araw ng Kagitingan” was moved to April 10 pursuant to Proclamation No. 9, s. 2022 issued by President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.

“To enable our countrymen to avail of the benefits of a longer weekend, Monday, 10 April 2023, in lieu of Sunday, 9 April 2023 may be declared as a non-working holiday, provided that the historical significance of ‘Araw ng Kagitingan’ is maintained,” the President said in his proclamation.
