The recent story that the legendary trio of Tito Sotto, Vic Sotto and Joey De Leon would be leaving their noontime show Eat Bulaga if issues wont be settled is shocking and sad. (so affected talaga?!)The past 44 years, EB is TVJ, TVJ is EB. I am sure loyal fans and televiewers hope that there will be no major change like this. (wag sana tayo mabulaga sa mga kaganapan!)
Eat Bulaga is special to me. Aside from it was part of my growing years as a young televiewer, it was also my very first TV break during my early years as a Radio Jock. (nung kasagsagan ng tagline kong may ganon!) My first stint there was on a Saturday episode. I was instructed to give hilarious comments on the hosts’ opening number performance. (in short okrayin sila! afraid!) Right after my spot, one of the producers approached me and offered me to host a regular segment. (as in agad-agad!)

EB Dance Station was my weekly segment on the show. It featured showdown of dance groups and my role as usual was to comment on their production number. (yan na ata ang purpose ko in life, ang mang-okray!) I did this segment with some of EB’s mainstays, (feeling dabarkads ganyan!) that’s why I really had to bring with me my adlib skills. (or else lamunin nila ako! bawal pashonga shonga!)It was also in this segment that introduced the vest as my trademark outfit. (na naging uniform ko sa lahat ng naging shows ko noon!) I tried putting on a vest in one episode and they liked it. (ayaw kasi ni Direk Poochie Rivera yung mga suot kong polo, kaya nag-vest ako! I’m the vest!)
In my one year stint on EB, I never had the chance to be with TVJ on cam. (baka ayaw ako kasama. chos!) But I had this funny routine. I would always look at my mobile phone if Sir Joey De Leon was in the area. (natatakot kasi ako na mag hello sa kanya!) One time, while I was on my phone, he approached me and said: Huuuy! (sabay hampas ng hawak nyang dyaryo!) Of course I had to say: “Hello po Sir!” Then one writer saw that and told me: “Wow, pinansin ka ni Sir Joey! Sumisikat mga pinapalo nya ng dyaryo!” (so baka sumikat nako soon. chos!)

After several months, I became part of Sir Joey’s Wow Mali on TV5. He even gave the permission to change the show’s title to Wow Meganon. (bilang nandun ang presence ko!) But management decided to use the original title after a year to maintain the brand. (pero sinama pa rin nya ako sa show!) In one of our tapings, he shared with me the history of Eat Bulaga, while writing the show title on a piece of table napkin. After our long chat, I asked him to sign the napkin. (pina-frame ko at dinisplay sa WTFu studio namin!) We were together in this show for seven years. (kaya feeling close ako sa kanya!)
These are some of the many EB stories. (in fairness, di nila ako kinakalimutan. gineguest pa rin ako paminsan minsan!) I think one book cannot accommodate four decades of Eat Bulaga. (kailangan ata encyclopedia!) We just hope the EB saga continues. Sir Joey would always say: “Hanggat may bata, may Eat Bulaga!”

(so may forever ito?!)
