Here’s a toast to mothers, sisters, daughters, women all in celebration of International Women’s Month this March.

Women’s Month in entertainment sees renewed interest, not necessarily rivalry, between National Artist Nora Aunor and actress-politician Vilma Santos.

The two movie queens, who have been ruling the movie world since the early 1970s, showcase the finest example of career longevity. Consider how, after five decades, the two actresses are still being talked about, discussed and dissected on social media, and are now still the main attractions in several new projects.

Springing from a life-threatening ailment, Nora has started shooting a new film, Pieta, which casts her together with Jaclyn Jose, Gina Alajar and Alfred Vargas.

Vilma, celebrating this year her 60th year as an actress, has announced she’s doing three films in 2023, one of them reuniting her with Christopher de Leon in a mature love story to be shot in Japan.

The two women, in separate occasions, have also expressed interest in working together again in a movie. Nora and Vilma scored their most memorable films together in Ikaw ay Akin and T-Bird at Ako.

Too bad that at their present age, almost 70, they can no longer be credible as the spinster-sisters Candida and Paula in Nick Joaquin’s Portrait of the Artist as Filipino (Larawan).

Liza Soberano got an earful from fans of Kathryn Bernardo who reacted violently to a statement attributed to the suddenly controversial actress.

Guesting on Bea Alonzo’s vlog, Liza said that Hello Love Goodbye, 2019’s biggest box office hit, was initially offered to her and Enrique Gil.

The couple had asked Star Cinema to save the material for them, but as fate would have it, the project went to Kathryn and Alden Richards.

Liza is now getting bashed by Kathryn’s followers, an added bonus to several others from the industry and the public castigating Liza for allegedly being ungrateful.

As for Kathryn, the lady is now spotlighted throughout March, Women’s Month on Cinema One.

These movies celebrate the strength of various female characters.
