BuCor spokesperson tests COVID-19 positive

Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) spokesperson Gabriel Chaclag has tested positive for the 2019 novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) according to results of tests released on Saturday, Sept. 19.

The BuCor said in a statement that its Public Information Office (PIO) chief disclosed this himself after receiving the test results of the reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) test that was conducted on him.

“The swab test was done on Tuesday and the result just came out today,” the BuCor said.

“He has since been quarantined with mild symptoms,” it assured.

With this, the BuCor advised “all personnel and staff who might have had interaction with him since last week to visit the Directorate for Health Sevices (DHS) for assessment and swab testing.”

“This is also to inform other stakeholders, partners from the media and NGOs (non-government organizations) who might have been exposed to seek immediate medical advice,” it added.

Aside from Chaclag, BuCor Director General Gerald Bantag also underwent RT-PCR tests after two of his close-in staff tested positive for COVID-19.

The BuCor said the test conducted on Bantag is expected to be released this Monday, Sept. 21.
