DOJ now has 34 active cases of COVID-19; lockdown may be extended -- Guevarra
Seventeen employees of the Witness Protection Program (WPP) of the Department of Justice (DOJ) were found to be infected with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), Justice Secretary Menardo I. Guevarra said Friday afternoon, March 19.

“These 17 new cases are on top of the 17 cases reported yesterday (March 18),” Guevarra said.
“The new ones are housed in one building only. They are asymptomatic except for one, and they have all been isolated,” he said.
He said “the regional, provincial and city prosecution offices have been authorized to take the necessary measures in their respective jurisdictions,” he stressed.
“We may have to extend the temporary lockdown of the DOJ premises unless the rising transmission rate is arrested,” he pointed out.
The DOJ main offices on Padre Faura Street in Ermita, Manila are on lockdown until March 23 and employees were required to work from home, except for skeletal staff to attend to urgent matters.
With the 17 additional COVID-19 infections, there are now a total of 52 personnel who had and have been infected. One of them died but the cause of death was not due to virus’ infection.
