There’s really nothing new to this story.  Surely, no one will be surprised reading about this incident, especially since it involves this actor who is not only rumored to be brusque on the outside but a softie on the inside but also for being hard to deal with.  From what had been reported in the media, he was even dropped by his former manager after their relationship turned sour and has become a case only the courts can decide on—also on account of his bad temper.

I’m writing about this because I didn’t expect to be an eyewitness to a very recent incident where the actor blatantly showed the world he is no Mr. Popularity. Well, far from it.

Over the weekend, I went on a night out with friends to check out a new cool club at the Newport World Resorts in Pasay City.  While enjoying our time there, we saw some celebrities stepping in and then joining us in the party scene.  About an hour later, in went the actor who is the subject of this column, who we shall be calling, for now, as Mr. Tinderella. Good-looking as he really is, people were noticeably excited to see him there, based on how they fixed their gaze on the star who just made his entrance.  Tinderella quite expectedly approached his fellow showbiz friends for a brief chat and seemed to be in a good mood.  Shortly after that, he left his friends’ company and headed to another part of the club where he was approached by a handful of fans, probably trying to make some small talk.  Obviously showing his being irritated (and allergic!) with the fans who approached him, he immediately went out of the door and walked out.  The fans, who were shocked with how their idol snubbed them, just went back to their seats and talked about how they were shabbily treated by the person they have always been supportive of.

Naturally, the media man in me couldn’t help but try to know what really happened, so I approached the fans and asked them what the “scene” was all about.

“Talagang idol ko sya ever since na sumikat sya.  Kanina, nung first time ko siyang makita, sabi ko talaga, sya yung idol ko! Gusto ko talagang magpa-picture, sinabi ko sa mga kasama ko,” one of them shared.  “When I approached him, sabi ko, “Hi!  Can I take a picture with you?” And then sabi nya, “No.  Sorry,” he refused me right away, and then umalis agad sya tapos talagang makikita mo sa expression ng mukha nya talagang pinakita niyang ayaw nya sa akin!  Maraming nakakita.  Gusto ko lang naman talagang magpa-picture sa kanya,” the rejected fan added.

Another member of the group, who was with the rejected fan half-jokingly said: “I was really disappointed about him, dami pa namang nagsasabing kamukha ko siya (laughs).  Pero earlier, sa pinakita niyang attitude, I was so pissed and disappointed for my friend.  Nakakadismaya talaga.  I was one of the witnesses na he really has a bad attitude.”

Now given what they’ve experienced from the actor they have always looked up to, has he fallen from the glorious pedestal where they placed him before?  Will they remain as Tinderella’s fans?

The rejected fan’s answer is quite expected: “I don’t know.  Siguro hindi na. When you idolize someone, you want to emulate his actions, follow in his footsteps.  That person, I don’t think that I can be that rude to other people.  I don’t think we can share the same attitudes in life.  Dami nang nagsasabing ganun talaga sya, pero binalewale ko yun kasi nga idol ko siya.”

Fan number 2, on the other hand, has an insightful realization from the experience: “Right naman nya yun, if he doesn’t want to take pictures with anyone.  Basta attitude sya.  Good attitude pa naman yung pinaka-importante sa mga artists.”

So who’s Tinderella?  Are you asking me for clues?  What clues?! All the obvious ones are already in this article!
