NBI arrests couple for 'illegally selling' wildlife in Pasay City
A husband and his wife have been arrested by the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) in Pasay City for allegedly selling “without permit’ Sun Conure birds which the Biodiversity Management Bureau (BMB) labeled as “endangered species” of exotic birds.
Those arrested were identified by the NBI as spouses Wilson Qua and Fe Anita Dulay Qua. They have been charged with violations of the Wildlife Resources Conservation and Protection Act in relation to the Cyber Prevention Act of 2012.
Wikipedia says the Sun Conure or Sun Parakeet “is a medium-sized, vibrantly colored parrot.”
The NBI said in a statement that the arrest of the couple by agents of the NBI’s Environmental Crimes Division (NBI-EnCD) last March 9 also resulted in the seizure of 29 Sun Conure birds.
It said it had received information on persons selling wildlife in Pasay City. After verification, the NBI-EnCD conducted an operation, it said.
