Miley Cyrus recently released a new single titled "River.”
Said song is the follow up to her chart-topping hit “Flowers.”
Both were culled from her eighth studio album titled “Endless Summer Vacation” released over the weekend.
“River” borrows heavily from the synth and dance records of the early to mid-80’s.
On said single, driving beats and layered sounds of wheezing synths, rhythmic stabs of bass synths and hook guitar melodies conjure sonic references to Blondie and New Order.
“River” is written by Cyrus and Justin Tranter with co-writing credits to track producers Kid Harpoon and Tyler Johnson. Critics have branded "River" as Miley Cyrus’ answer to Dua Lipa's "Future Nostalgia" and Lady Gaga's "Chromatica" albums. Cyrus herself was quoted in describing “River” as a “dance floor banger.” Cyrus recently spent 6 weeks at the number one spot at the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart with "Flowers."
