'Look under the hood' of jeepney modernization program, Recto tells gov't
House Deputy Speaker and Batangas 6th district Rep. Ralph Recto said the government should look into the “catalogue of complaints" on the jeepney modernization.

Recto, in a statement Wednesday, March 1, said the complaints ranging from "financing to roadworthiness to affordability before proceeding with the program".
“Parang kotse ‘yan (It's like driving a car). If many alarm lights in the dashboard are blinking, then you must step on the brake. You don’t step on the gas,” he said.
He said all stakeholders are united on the idea of modernizing the jeep under a program that is affordable, just, consultative, and democratic.
“So itong panawagan na i-evaluate ang programa ay beneficial speedbumps to ensure that the program will not crash (So this appeal to evaluate the program is a beneficial speedbump to ensure that the program will not crash) ,” Recto said.
Earlier Wednesday, President Ferdinand 'Bongbong" Marcos Jr. was quoted as saying that he wants the jeepney modernization program implemented in a different way.
Recto said there is no harm “in looking under the hood of the program. A tune-up is not a bad thing.”
“Policy recklessness is more dangerous than reckless driving," added the former Senate President pro tempore.
Recto also called for a “fleet inventory” to determine how many modern jeepneys are still running.
“Kumusta naman po ang maintenance expenses nila? Mahal ba o mura? Matibay ba sila o sirain? Mayroon bang ready spare parts? (How are the maintenance expenses? Is it expensive or cheap? Are the jeeps durable or fragile? Are spare parts readily available?)” he asked.
