NBI, PNP start joint probe on death of 'middleman' in Percy Lapid killing

The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) and the Philippine National Police (PNP) started on Thursday, Oct. 27, their joint probe on the death of Jun Globa Villamor, a detainee of the New Bilibid Prison (NBP) in Muntinlupa City who was tagged as a “middleman” in the killing last Oct. 3 of radio commentator Percival Mabasa, better known as Percy Lapid.

Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin C. Remulla had said the death of Jun Villamor may also be a murder case just like that of Percy Lapid’s.

He said he was present at the start of the joint investigation as he said: “I want to make sure that things would start properly.”

“I introduced the police to the NBI so that they can have a working relationship so that we will not waste time in the investigation,” he said.

Remulla explained that the joint probe was “basically prompted by the dying declaration that was in a form of a text to the sister of Jun Villamor y Globa.”

Jun Villamor died inside the NBP compound in the afternoon of Oct. 18, hours after self-confessed gunman of Percy Lapid, Joel S. Escorial, was presented to the media.

Days after his death, June Villamor’s sister surfaced and sought the assistance of Senator Raffly Tulfo. The sister, called Marisa (not her real name), was turned over to the Department of Justice (DOJ) which placed her under the government’s Witness Protection Program (WPP).

Before her brother died, Marisa said he was able to send messages to her that he feared for his life and revealed that he knew those involved in the Percy Lapid killing.

Marisa said his brother in his text message mentioned three persons, only their aliases at the NBP, as involved in the killing of Percy Lapid.

While at the NBI, Remulla said he visited four “persons of interest” who have been in the custody of the agency.
