BAGUIO CITY – Police arrested a 25-year-old call center agent for estafa in La Trinidad, Benguet on Sunday, Feb. 19.
The warrants of arrest for suspect Akira Shan Guiles for 35 counts of estafa was issued by Judge Roberto Mabalot of Branch 1, Municipal Trial Court (MTC) in Cities, Baguio City.
The court recommended a total bail of P654,000 for her temporary liberty.
Investigation said that sometime in September 2021, the suspect collected money from investments owned by certain Chesterlo Ong-ongwab from 35 individuals.
The complainants did not receive any amount of money for several months, prompting them to file a case against them.
The modality involves investing money and luring the victims by promising them a very good deal.
City police chief Col. Francisco Bulwayan Jr. reminded the public not to fall for these types of investment schemes, particularly those that offer and guarantee immediate high interest.
"It is not wrong to invest, however, always check the authenticity of the investment business," Bulwayan said.
