Acop tells Badoy: 'You do not have a monopoly of love of country'

Antipolo City 2nd district Rep. Romeo Acop told former National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (NTF-ELCAC) spokesperson Lorraine Badoy to her face that she "[does] not have a monopoly of love of country". 

A fuming Acop did so just before Badoy was escorted to her detention area in the House of Representatives Tuesday night, Dec. 5. 

Minutes earlier, she was cited in contempt during a hearing of the House Committee on Legislative Franchises, which discussed possible franchise violations of TV network SMNI. 

Throughout the hearing, Badoy presented herself as a hardliner against the Communist Party of the Philippines-New People's Army-National Democratic Front of the Philippines (CPP-NPA-NDFP). She said that she wants to put an end to these groups. 

But her citation in contempt by the solons left her dejected, especially since she's the child of a former House member. 

"This is the place where I grew up in. Dito ako naglaro (I played here) when my father was in Congress. And I'm deeply saddened by what I've seen today. But I respect the committee because this is how I was brought up by my father," she said. 

Badoy continued: "I'm really sad that this has happened to our Congress. I didn't see this when [I] was growing up. This was the place where we could stand on our shared ground for love of country and what I witnessed right now was a travesty and I'm very sad for my country." 

That's when Acop, a retired police brigadier general, had heard enough. 

"I'm sorry for what happened to you Madam Badoy but you do not have a monopoly of love of country. I have spent my life fighting for this country. You do not have to tell me that," Acop said. 

"Mas marami akong sinugal kaysa sayo (I have risked a lot more than you). So do not give me that crap," the solon from Antipolo told the resource speaker, his eyes locked on the latter.

"Kasi (Because) I have laid down my life, very open, just to protect this country. And if ever I'm going to be called again, I'll do it," he said, before delivering a zinger to Badoy. 

"Not the way you want it, but the way it is authorized by the government." 

Badoy could spend both Christmas and New Year in detention unless the House members change their mind.
