QCPD chief leads destruction, disposal of illegal firecrackers

Quezon City Police District (QCPD) director Brig. Gen. Redrico Maranan spearheaded the ceremonial destruction and disposal of confiscated illegal firecrackers in Quezon City on Saturday, Dec 30.

The ceremony was held around 9 a.m. at the QCPD Grandstand in Quezon City.
QCPD said they conducted 94 operations from Dec. 26 until 8 a.m. on Dec. 30, confiscating 13,078 pieces of illegal TV firecrackers with an estimated value of P400,000.
On Dec. 29, Maranan encouraged the public to obey Republic Act (RA) 7183, also known as An Act Regulating the Sale, Manufacture, and Use of Firecrackers and Other Pyrotechnic Devices in welcoming the New Year celebration.

It aims to guarantee the safety of the public, uphold order, protect national security, and at the same time, safeguard cultural traditions.
The QCPD chief said violators will face penalties under existing laws and local ordinances.

Meanwhile, Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte urged the public on Friday, Dec. 29, to strictly observe the firecracker ban.

The city mayor also invited the Quezon City residents to attend the "QC Countdown to 2024" that will start at around 4 p.m. on Sunday at the Quezon City Memorial Circle.
